The skills shortage is rated as the number one issue affecting workshop sustainability and growth. This seminar will tackle this big issue head-on, revealing the extent of the problem, and how it affects the bottom line. Importantly, this Seminar will provide some much-needed optimism about what can we do to attract staff and how we can address our shortages; both as an industry and at the individual workshop level. We are in a serious skills crisis but as an industry, we can work together to address the greatest challenge of our time: Finding good staff and keeping them.

David has over 36 years’ experience in the automotive industry and has held senior sales, marketing and general management roles over the past two decades. David was appointed as Capricorn’s Group CEO in July 2019. Before his appointment he was CEO of the Group’s Automotive Division. Prior to joining Capricorn his previous experience includes Group General Manager of Supply Direct, and he was a former Associate Director and the Group General Manager of Coventry Group Ltd.
He is a current Director of BCCM, Deputy Chair of the Co-operatives Federation of WA, and a Director of the WA Motor Industry Foundation.

Adam has been involved in the Automotive Industry for over 30 years. He started his career in the UK as an apprentice technician where his career developed rapidly, seeing him take on increasingly senior operational roles and relocating to Australia and joining KTAS in 2005, and appointed Managing Director in 2013. Adam oversaw the successful acquisition of KTAS by Continental AG in late 2018 and the business rebranded to mycar in 2019. Adam joined the AAAA National Council in 2014 and has passionately supported the AAAA Choice of Repairer campaign, and is committed to ensuring that mandatory data sharing laws are not just legislated but are enforced.

Lesley Yates is Director of Government Relations and Advocacy for the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association. Lesley manages AAAA advocacy campaigns, designing creative and innovative solutions to address the greatest challenges facing our industry and then lobbying and encouraging the government to make the right decisions to support our industry. In 2021, after a decade of AAAA campaigning for fair and open competition, the new motor vehicle repair law was passed in the Australian Parliament. This legislation is the result of a tireless and persistent grassroots campaign by the AAAA. Lesley is now tackling our ongoing substantial industry challenges, including the workforce shortage crisis and government vehicle modification regulations.

James has been in his role as CEO for just over 2 years and with the AADA since 2017. He has extensive policy and automotive advocacy experience and has worked as an advisor to a Federal Minister as well as several senior policy roles within a range of industry associations.
